Leafs up on the podium
Leafs make 2 first round selections
After failing to aquire the 3rd overall pick, the Leafs then made their first 2 picks in the first round of this years draft.
7th overall pick(aquired last season from the Wild as comp from losing Vinny Lecav)
Defenseman AJ Thelen was one of the best dmen in what truly eneded up being a weak defenseman draft, after many of the HF ratings dropped on some of the key players. Thelen addresses one of the few areas the Leafs are thin in their organziation.
10th overall
Next pick was tougher for the buds, since they were pushing hard to aquire the #3 overall pick since it had been stated it was available for 2 first rounders, which the Leafs GM jumped at, but to no avail. That would have landed them a top #1 JR goalie in Justin Pogge, and one who could have made the jump to pro fairly fast. With that in mind, It was a toss up between a slightly less talanted tender and a LW. In the end, they went with Alexandre Picard. This LWer will be given all the time he needs to work his way up to the pro.
The Leafs still might trade a 1st/2nd combo for a higher first if the situation presents itself.
The Leafs have #27 and #30 to end the first round. I'll be curious to see if they will be still drafting a player once their pick comes up.
