Sens Look Forward to Game One

The Ottawa Senators were happy with what they saw early in the preseason before they sat their stars to play the schlubs.

They had the 3rd best Powerplay and a lot of offense in the first 3 games of the preseason. Kovalev, Selanne and Morrison/bouchard seemed to click automatically and should make up for a lack-lustre offense last season. The Sens suffered all around last year but they hope to sign Fata at the 20 game mark to add some depth and they feel confident that they can sneak into the playoffs this season.

They also seemed to solve at least some of their defensive woes with the signings of Kaberle and Gill on the points to add finesse on the powerplay and strength on the checking line respectively. Kaberle landed 5 big assists, 3 on the PP in the preseason showing that he was a strong investment. Gill added grit and brute force to the now intimidating offense. Youngsters Whitney and Novak seem to have drastically improved from last seasons weak performances as well as they rerated very well.

Last, but not least, the Senators signed big-time #1 goaltender Chris Osgood in the offseason and that move seemed to prove the most useful so far as Turek slid nicely into a backup role, a role which he is comfortable and confident in. Osgood posted decent numbers in a preseason where he had to tend behind a very weak scrub lineup for the last 5 games when GM Schmucky insisted he continue playing despite being slaughtered with shots. He posted a shutout vs. the Pens to close out the preseason.

GO SENS GO!
