WEBER SETS TONE
Carolina
After 3 games, defenseman Shea Weber leads all blueliners in points after a 2 point performance Thursday night.
Weber, a right handed anchor, has managed to accumulate 5 points, including 4 assists on route to making himself one of the junior leagues most recognizable defenders.
"He has really come into his own these past couple seasons," stated head coach Craig Hartsburg. "I have found that since he arrived, he has improved in so many different areas that it is almost remarkable. I think this could be a big break out year for him offensively."
Weber, who is most known for his stellar play at the world junior championships in 2004 playing along side possible CLUTCH rookie of the year candidate Dion Phaneuf. The duo were Canada’s top pairing and we never scored on at any point, special teams or even strength, throughout the tournament.
"He has a special ability to really compliment anyone he plays with," said Phanuef. "He has a strong shot from the point, makes a fantastic first pass and he is as strong as anyone in the league. He will be up here next year, that I can tell you."
Currently, Weber is receiving plenty of gravy time on the power play. While his steady play in the back end never goes unnoticed, this is the sort of opportunity he has waited for some time now.
"I have been waiting for this time to come along. Guys like Mojzis and Corny have made it difficult to get into the limelight. I think this year I will get more opportunities to prove myself. Hopefully I do."
