Capitals Dim Stars

Manny Legace stopped all 24 shots he faced on Day 19 to lead the Washington Capitals to a 2-0 victory over the Dallas Stars. The win lifts Washington to 4-4-2 for the season.

David Vyborny opened the scoring for the Caps in the first period when he converted from Frantisek Lukes and Jonathan Cheechoo at 16:15. Washington outshot Dallas 7-4 in the first and killed six minutes of penalties.

The Capitals extended the lead to two goals with a shorthanded tally late in the middle stanza. While Oleg Saprykin was in the box for charging, Zigmund Palffy netted from Dan Boyle and Bryan Berard at 17:02. The other action in the second was a fight between Cory Sarich and Dallas' Eyestrom that ended in a draw.

Legace's performance upped his record to 2-4-2. Marty Turco had 16 saves in the loss.

The Capitals are off on Day 20 before hosting Detroit on Day 21.
