MANCARI AND POWER PLAY CLICK

Carolina

The Junior Canes gave up 9 power plays and 28 shots, but the club would not give in to the thought of a loss.

Mark Mancari continued his ongoing story of being one of the league's most physical power forwards, notching two more goals and putting him up to 5 goals on the year after 8 games.

Jonathan Boutin, who replaced Jeff Glass after the last horrid loss to the Rangers, returned to form with a 26 save performance and earned himself the second star of the game.

Jordan Smith was also his usual physical self, with a +1 rating, 3 hits and a game leading 14 penalty minutes. Smith is now +5 on the year and leads the Canes in that category, penalty minutes with 48 and is tied for second on the team in assists with 4.

"Jordan has really been one of our most consistent players all year long," said Hartsburg. "He is not a flashy guy, but he will give you everything he has every night. I think I depend on him more than any one else on this team because he has the leadership, the talent and the no quit attitude that I look for in a guy."

Jordan Smith also added an assist in the contest, setting up Mike Richards for his first of the year. Richards had been struggling offensively from the get go but has since looked more comfortable in his third line role.

"I was hoping to get more offensive ice time, but Penner and Fraser are doing the job right now," said Richards. "I like the role of shutdown guy, but sometimes, we like the gravy points."

The Junior Canes host the junior Devils tonight. Look for the same lineup.
