Panthers Dose Flames 5-2

Cale Hulse scored his first two goals of the season to help lead the Florida Panthers past the Calgary Flames 5-2.

Calgary kept up with the Panthers in the first period and Saku Koivu scored just 1:15 into the contest to give the Flames a 1-0 lead that they hung on to after 20 minutes.

The second period was all Panthers. Cale Hulse (pictured on right)started the scoring at 2:06 to tie the game. Eric Daze (pictured on left) scored his third of the season at 10:36 to put the Panthers up 2-1. Daze also added two assists and was named the games first star. Hulse scored his second of the game and eventual game winner at 11:58 and was named the games second star. Owen Nolan added a power play goal at 14:02 and Patrik Stefan got his 5th of the year at 16:58 to give the Panthers a commanding 5-1 lead going into the third period.

Although the Panthers outshot the Flames 13-5 in the third and 36-20 overall it was the Flames who got the only goal of the period. In what the Calgary fans were hoping to be the start of a comeback Markus Naslund scored his first of the year just :34 seconds in to cut the lead to 5-2. The Panthers held the Flames to only 4 more shots and extended their winning streak to 3 games.

With the win the Panthers took sole possession of first in the Patrick division over the idle Hurricanes who have a game in hand.

Next up for the Panthers is the Los Angeles Kings.
