CARTER AND LESSARD EACH WITH 3 POINTS, CANES WIN

Carolina

The Junior Canes strolled into Tampa on Thursday night and managed to hold on to a 3-2 lead for the victory. Up front, the Canes usual suspects of Jeff Carter (pictured on the left) and Junior Lessard each contributed 3 points. Lessard had 2 goals in the contest while Carter assisted on all three Canes goals.

Between the pipes, the steady Konstantin Barulin made another start and was once again successful. The Russian netminder turned away 31 of 33 shots to earn the victory.

"Carts had a very strong outing tonight," said defenseman Shea Weber. "He really picked up his game for tonight. He has just been unbelievable lately, the way he can slide those passes in there. I think he can single-handedly carry us on most nights, he is that good."

With those three assists, the Canes now have 3 of the top 5 leaders in assists in the league. Along with Lessard and captain Brandon Reid, the Canes have demonstrated a ton of offense up front. Lessard (pictured on the right) also currently leads the entire league in scoring while Tomas Mojzis continues to lead all defensemen.

"Offense really hasn't been much of an issue for these kids," said head coach Craig Hartsburgh. "They seem to rally around one another and it does not appear as though they are ever content, no matter how many they get. They are always tough to play, it is a fun team to coach."

The junior Canes get a rest tonight and the word is Rob Zepp, who has been feeling a bit under the weather, may make his return the following day. Time will tell.
