Welcome back Matt Walker - now go
After a devastating day one injury that left him out indefinitely and contemplating retirement. Matt Walker is expected to suit up within the week for the Boston Bruins defense.
Left for dead by the roster when Detroit left him sprawled on the ice, clenching his shoulder and spitting blood, Walker spent nearly two weeks in the hospital following surgery. He spent extensive time signing autographs for the club in a gesture of good faith - and to get some value out of his rotting carcass - but quickly began the rehab process.
"Throughout it all, I knew there was a shot. Even when doctors told me I may have to retire - I was not going to give up. And here I am - going from retiree to on-ice in only forty-four days," Walker said when the team announced he was being re-activated.
Speculation around the children in Boston said that obviously, to have healed so quickly, Walker must be part Wolverine, the famed X-Men character who could heal quickly from near-fatal wounds.
But Matt Walker never played for the University of Michigan, so that is doubtful. Plus, he does not have claws which retract from his skin. He does, however, have a spot on the trade block.
"We saw Matt through his injury and paid him through that. But given the team's recent improvement, we feel we may not need him," GM Joshua Anderson said. "As such, we will be fielding any and all trade offers for him."
