Junior Capitals Destroyed by Devils

The Washington Junior Capitals ran its losing streak to four games in a 7-3 loss to the New Jersey Junior Devils on Day 93. The loss drops Washington to 20-24-3.

The Devils jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in a penalty-filled first period. Rosehill was the scorer from Mirnov and Hale at 3:33. After five penalties, including a checking-from-behind major to the Capitals, New Jersey extended its lead to 2-0 at 12:52 when Janik netted from Keith and Cole. Washington finally got on the board just under five minutes after Janik's goal on Branko Radivojevic's tally from Cory Urquhart and Igor Shadulov.

New Jersey turned it on in the second period to blow the game wide open. Hale started things off at 3:20 when he converted from Rosehill and Mirnov. Just 1:18 later Goldade scored an unassisted goal on the power play to make it 4-1. One second after the clock hit 9:00, Goldade scored again, his 10th of the season, from Miller. Mirnov completed the second period domination with a goal from Pohanka and Demarchi at 18:52.

Trailing 6-1 entering the final period, Washington needed a miracle. Sean Bergenheim gave the fans some hope when he scored an unassisted goal at 5:52, but it took nearly 10 more minutes for the Capitals to light the lamp again. This time it was Radivojevic scoring his second of the game from Shadulov and Zbynek Novak at 15:43. Kubista added a late goal for the Devils from Pohanka and Hale to finish the scoring.

Brad Topping struggled, stopping just 12 shots. Daniel Taylor made 13 saves in relief. Jeff Drouin-Deslaurier made 27 saves to earn the win for the Devils.

The Junior Capitals return to the ice on Day 95 against St. Louis.
