Junior Capitals Sing the Blues
The Washington Junior Capitals lost its second straight game on Day 89 in a 5-0 setback to the St. Louis Junior Blues. Washington is now 20-22-3 for the season.
St. Louis jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back. McClement opened the scoring from Skinner and Stempniak at 13:18, before Stempniak converted from Skinner and McClement at 16:49 to make it 2-0. Jaakola completed the first period scoring with a shorthanded tally from Veilleux and Black at 19:29.
Washington came out with a bit more energy in the second period, but the Blues wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard again. Stempniak was the scorer at 1:07. Fabien Laniel tried to turn the tide by dropping the gloves, but St. Louis' Bowen beat up the Washington player.
The Blues finished off the rout late in the final period on Johnson's goal from Riddle and Jaakola at 17:02. Washington managed just one shot on goal in the third period as the Blues skated to the easy win.
Brad Topping made just 19 saves in the loss. Daniel Taylor stopped two shots in relief. Daniel Boisclair made 17 saves to earn the shutout for St. Louis.
The Junior Capitals return to action on Day 91 against Carolina.
