Junior Capitals Slash Sabres
Sean Kotary scored a pair of goals to lead the Washington Junior Capitals to a 5-1 victory over the Buffalo Junior Sabres on Day 86. The two points moves Washington to 20-20-3 for the season.
After a scoreless first period, Washington erupted for three goals in a span of 1:40 of the second period to take control of the game. Ryan MacMurchy opened the floodgates with an unassisted tally at 8:01, before Peter Pohl connected from Fabien Laniel and Greg Mauldin 35 seconds later to make it 2-0. Kotary then scored his first of the game from Jakub Cutta and Igor Shadulov at 9:41. Buffalo pulled a goal back from Ryznar and Foster at 18:06 to send the game to intermission at 3-1.
The Capitals continued to pour it on in the final period, adding a pair of goals to complete the rout. Patrick O'Sullivan got the first from MacMurchy and Sean Bergenheim at 7:27. Kotary finished the scoring with his 10th of the year from Bergenheim and Cutta at 13:52.
Brad Topping was stellar in goal for Washington, making 29 saves to earn the victory and first star honors. Maxime Daigneault stopped 17 shots in a losing effort for the Sabres. Adam Munro made six saves in relief.
The Junior Capitals are right back in action on Day 87 against Columbus.
