Leafs GM tipped off about drug probe before game against commish's team.
A testy and moody Leaf squad put out a weak effort against the League leading Islanders. Reports of a drug probe and possible testing of players was leaked to the Leafs GM before game day. Sufficed to say, the Leafs looked like a very "normal" team indeed. Considering the Islanders are ran by none other than the Commish himself, it would not come as any surprise to hear that the team didnt take their "meds" for this match up.
One quick look at the team's top line saw stars like Sundin, Smyth, Park and Numminen with horrid -4's for the night.
When questioned about this, the Leafs GM was rather cryptic.
"I got a call before game time, and was given a heads up regarding a certain possible situation occuring. We made the needed adjustments, and will happily take the loss and move on to the next game. You should see a noticable improvement with certain players as well. Also, we want to thank the GM who helped us out. He was just repaying a favor from earlier this season. "
He wouldnt say which GM he was talking about or what exactly he was refering to by "adjustments" and "noticible improvements".
Leaf fans shouldnt be happy with a loss, but then again, if what has been said is true, they would be way more upset if either players and/or the GM was suspended for possible drug usage.
The ironic thing about this entire process is that these medications were issued by League offices. Perhaps their is some blackmailing going on behind the scenes with the Commish's team and certain games hes involved in on specific nights.
Who knows whats going on. All this talk about drugs, combined with a 7-3 pounding, has made me need to go smoke a fatty .....ahhhh....much better.
