CANES LEAN ON VETS IN PLAYOFF STRETCH

Carolina

With time ticking away and the Canes struggling to pick up a win, the Carolina Hurricanes got an earful from it's disgruntled coach.

"We need to win some games here," said Joel Quenneville. "This season is going to be won and lost depending on how we do down this last part. We started off great and we had an incredible undefeated streak, but it is time these guys start playing now and stop reminiscing about what about a couple month ago."

Quenneville also pointed out veterans Jeff Friesen, Cory Stillman, Darcy Tucker and Shane Doan as the guys who need to take more pride in themselves and carry the team the rest of the way.

"These are the guys who have done it all season long. But right now, they are not getting us anywhere. We count on them to score, we count on them to lead by example. Without them, this team cannot win. I need better efforts form them the rest of the way. This team and city count on it."

With 31 goals, a career record, Jeff Friesen has lead the Canes in scoring basically since the day Darcy Tucker was acquired. The speedy 29 year old, who is in his final year of his contract, has answered basically any scoring question that has been asked of him. He leads the team in points and goals and has consistently been the squad’s best player.

"Jeff has been above and beyong most expectations," said Quenneville, "but when you are the go to guy, that is what you are and I expect him to continue producing."

Carolina takes on St. Louis tonight and the hope is the veterans will step up their games.
