Capitals Edge Canucks in Overtime

The Washington Capitals moved within two games of .500 on Day 124 after beating the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in overtime. The result moves Washington to 25-27-10.

Vancouver got on the board first at 6:58 of the opening period when Gladskikh scored from Bertuzzi and Tverdovsky. The Caps answered just 28 seconds later on Patrick Marleau's unassisted goal.

The Canucks regained the lead early in the second period, but once again Washington would tie it up. Kovalev got the goal for Vancouver from Gladskikh and Jovanovski at 3:26. Mikael Renberg tied the game for the Capitals from Zigmund Palffy at 11:22.

Much like the first two periods, Vancouver got on the board first in the final period to take the lead. This time it was Bertuzzi scoring the goal from Lang and Kovalev at 1:35, but once again Washington would battle back to tie the game. Renberg was the scorer again for the Capitals as Palffy and Marleau assisted.

The Capitals finally scored first in a period at 4:36 of the overtime session. Cory Sarich was the scorer from Todd Warriner and Michal Rozsival. The goal was Sarich's first of the season.

Manny Legace made 26 saves to earn the win and improve to 20-22-7. Byron Dafoe stopped 25 shots in the loss to fall to 23-17-3.

The Capitals are back in action on Day 126 against the New York Islanders.
