Rangers "Wade" into Tough Schedule and "Redden" Opposition

The New York Rangers played perhaps their toughest 5 game set of the season and not only emerged with a solid record but may also have witnessed the coming out party of Wade Redden.

The Rangers faced two teams in the ".600 club" in the San Jose Sharks and Florida Panthers as well as the incredibly tough Detroit Red Wings and the scrappy New Jersey Devils. They had one softer opponent in the Ottawa Senators but to keep their playoff hopes alive it was a must win.

Thanks in large part to brilliant play by Wade Redden the Rangers managed to beat the Panthers, Wings, and sens while tying Devils and losing to only the Sharks.

"Redden was absolutley dominant in every game and he should have won player of the week," ranted Burns at a press conference yesterday. 9 points in 5 games, 11 shots on net, 13 hits and 118 minutes played I mean what the hell does it take. This league is run by a bunch of crooks who vote for their friends. How could Redden end up 12th in ranking for player of the week and Tkachuk end up in first? They had the same amount of points! No one will say anything against the league cause they're afraid of retribution from all their mob connections but I'll say it! The fix was in! Let 's look at their stats!"

The GM proceeded to show a 20 minute power point presentation interspliced with highlights of Reddens play. There is no doubt that the ratings are a bit fishy and some are calling for a full blown inquiry.

When comparing the two players stats below it is clear that they were tied in points and that Redden had the sam amount of points but had more minutes played and more hits which doesn't explain why his ranking would be eleven back of Tkachuck.

Rank Player Team POS GP G A PTS +/- Sh PiM HITS MP PTS
Keith Tkachuk Bruins RW 4 6 3 9 4 16 0 6 76 29.00
Wade Redden Rangers D 5 2 7 9 1 11 4 13 118 24.00

Regardless of the ranking Redden's hard luck on the score sheet seems to have come to an end as he piled up points against difficult opponents over the week. Despite only notching 7 goals Redden has an incredible 145 shots on net and trails only Taylor Pyatt (156) and Pavel Bure (175) for the team lead.

"If you'd have told me we would come through this 5 game section of the schedule with only 1 loss I'd have been extremely happy. Which is what I am. Happy. Who's you're buddy?" said a slurring and apparently drunk Jonathan Girard. "H-heeey..." he said as he was pulled back into the dressing room by an alarmed Matt Spiller. "Wh-hhhat's wrong? Jusht Shcelebrating! Can't a guy have a good time? Come on. Who's your buddy buddy." This was an alarming turn of events as Girard was rumoured to have had alchohol problems when drafted but was kept on a very tight leash in Tampa previous to moving to New York. With the Rangers lack of depth they can ill afford to lose a defenceman to rehab.
