HEART OF CANES, GLASS

Carolina

With the season closing out, the Carolina Hurricanes appear to have found their go to netminder in the form of Jeff Glass.

Glass, 19, is a talented stopper and one of the more recognizable Team Canada Juniors from the 2004 squad. Glass backstopped the Canadians to a gold medal, its first in five years.

Today, however, is a new challenge. That of bringing the heavily hyped Carolina Hurricanes junior squad to a league championship, a task Glass appears to be more than ready for.

"Put me in the game," said Glass, "That is all I ask for."

Head coach Craig Hartsbrug has spoken of Glass as the key ingredient missing from the team during the regular season.

"He is sort of that missing piece to a puzzle. We have a squad that can bury the puck as well as anyone in this league and yet we tend to lose shootouts. It isn't a slap in the face of Rob Zepp, but he simply doesn't fair as well in the wide open games as Glass. Jeff can stay composed and not care what the score is. Rob is more of defense first and gets frustrated when the guys are chipping in too often. I don’t blame him, but it's a reality of our team. We run and gun and needed a goalie who could stand strong there."

The Canes have continued to rise in the standings since the acquisition of Glass earlier in the season. The hope is with Glass at least pushing Zepp, Carolina has positioned themselves well for a league title.
