Junior Capitals Deny Devils
The Washington Junior Capitals edged the New Jersey Junior Devils 3-2 on Day 124 to improve to 26-29-8 and stay in touch in the playoffs race. Washington is five points behind the Rangers with a game in hand.
Sean Kotary gave the Caps a perfect start on home ice when he scored from Zbynek Novak and Branko Radivojevic at 4:52. The goal was the only marker of the period as the Caps failed on three power place chances.
The action picked up in the second period, and New Jersey tied the game on Rosehill's goal from Clouthier and Thompson after just 39 seconds. Washington battled back to regain the lead on the power play at 8:33. Patrick O'Sullivan was the scorer from Lance Moynch and Brett Carson. The lead wouldn't last long, however, as McCutcheon evened it up from Mosovsky and Clouthier just 1:13 later. The Capitals would not be denied on this night, and Sean Bergenheim scored the game-winner at 11:45 from Carson and Siarhei Kolasau.
Brad Topping made 18 saves to earn the win for Washington and improve to 14-20-4. Jeff Drouin-Deslaurier stopped 25 shots in the loss for the Devils.
