Panther Spotlight Player Of the Week Winners
FLORIDA
Ivan Novoseltsev, Owen Nolan and Stephen Weiss have all been named "Player of the Week" during the year so far as the Panthers look their accomplishment in that week in which they were honored.
WEEK #1
Ivan Novoseltsev was named the "Player of the Week" after the first week of the season. The Panthers started the first week with a 3-2 record and had 4 players named in the top six players of week one. Stephen Weiss (4), Pierre Dagenais (5) and Petr Bondra (6) were all honorable mentions in week one but it was Ivan that stood out.
In the first five games of the season Ivan scored 6 goals and added 7 assists for and incredable13 points and a +5 rating and was clearly the best player of week one.
"I was fortunate to have a good start. It was important for us as a team to start strong and we did that. I am lucky that I play with a team full of talented players and we all contribute to each others success."
Before the next Panther was selected there were a few weeks where they were in the top 10. In week #8 Roberto Loungo was ranked 4th with a 3-0 record for the week, Petr Bondra was right behind him at #5 getting 2 goals and 7 points and week one winner Ivan Novoseltsev was #9 getting 5 assists on the week.
Week #12 Florida had Roberto Loungo once again in the top ten at #3 with another perfect week 3-0. Valeri Bure got his first honorable mention at #4 with 4 goals and 6 points on the week. Defenseman Mike Rathje was at #5 and Ivan Novoseltsev made the top ten again this time at #8.
WEEK #14
Owen Nolan was the POW in week 14. He was not alone at the top as another Panther was runner up.
Roberto Loungo was the runner up in week 14 posting a 4-0 record and once again the ageless Petr Bondra was in the top five at #5 scoring 3 goals and assisting on 6 others for 9 points.
Owen was given the nod for POW by scoring 5 goals and adding 7 helpers for 12 points and a +10.
"This is a team honor to me. I may not be having the success I am having this year with out my team mates here in Florida. Petr, Ivan, Roberto as well as every member of this team contribute week in and week out and we all are successful because of each other."
WEEK #17
Stephen Weiss is the latest Panther to receive POW honors and he had some tough competition from team mate Petr Bondra who was runner up and once again making the list his name frequents. Petr had 2 goals and 7 assists on the week but it was not enough as Weiss turned into a sniper.
Weiss scored 6 goals and added 3 assists for 9 points on the week. He scored all his goals in back to back games and 4 of them in one game becoming the first Panther this year to score more then two goals in a game getting the teams first hat trick which is amazing considering the Panthers are the highest scoring team in the league.
"The last week was fun for me. I think Petr should of got the POW because if my memory serves me correct he assisted in all my goals so with out him I wouldn't of had the week or success that I have had. This team is the consummate team. There are no superstar attitudes here and that's why we are successfull. We don't care who the star of the game is as long as our ultimate goal is achieved and that goal is to win the Stanley Cup.
