CANES FORWARDS WORKING IN CAMPS

Carolina

When the Carolina Hurricanes sent wingers Stephen Dixon and Jeremy Colliton, the idea was to try and get the duo to help accelerate their offensive talents. So far, the two look as though the teachings are paying off.

"In the future, these two have a big role on the defensive side of things," said head coach Craig Hartsburg. "Each of them knows their role in their own end, each of them is responsible in both ends and personally, I think both will end up being very good players in future for the Canes."

Colliton, a physically strong forward with moderate speed, is looking towards his future with the organization, and believes this step was key.

"Pretty much all the Canes juniors who make the jump attend these sessions," said Colliton. "I think the idea that I got to go with Stephen is making this experience better. We play together on the farm and we have really tried to help one another out and get better. This has been a pretty good experience so far anyways."

Between Dixon and Colliton, it appears the early favourite to be more successful in the process is Colliton. With overall better speed and more complete game, Colliton seems to have the right set of tools. Dixon on the other hand, has limited high end speed and his puck control is an issue, at least at this stage of his career. Dixon, however, is a more aggressive hitter and a relentless worker on the boards.

"I think they compliment one another enough tat it is good to give them the opportunity to work with one another," said Hartsburg. "The two will be going to a scoring camp in a couple weeks, hopefully continuing their development."
