Capitals Down Oilers

Patrick Marleau scored two goals and Zigmund Palffy netted three points to lead the Washington Capitals to a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Day 115. The win was Washington's third in a row and the team moved to 22-26-9.

Edmonton jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the power play when Aucoin scored from Kariya at 4:22, but the Capitals responded with a pair of goals to take a lead they would not relinquish. Marleau tied the game from Palffy at 7:43, before Palffy scored a goal of his own from Frantisek Lukes and Anson Carter on the power play at 16:51.

Washington kept the pressure up in the second period, and two more goals made it 4-1. Marleau scored his 15th of the season from Palffy and Mikael Renberg on the power play at 9:17 to get things going. Greg Watson then chipped in from Andrew Ference and Jonathan Cheechoo at 11:17 to give the Caps a three-goal lead.

The Oilers pulled a goal back while shorthanded in the final period, but Washington held on for the victory. Reasoner was the scorer from Krivokrasov and Aucoin.

Manny Legace made 24 saves for Washington. Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 31 shots for Edmonton.

The Capitals return to action on Day 118 against San Jose.
