Capitals Dissipate Hurricanes

The Washington Capitals won for its second straight game and extended its unbeaten run to five games in a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Day 114. The win moves Washington to 21-26-9.

Carolina too the lead late in the opening period when Draper netted from Eminger and Doan at 19:24. The goal, Draper's 13th of the season, came on the Hurricanes' 11th shot of the period. The Caps fired 10 shots at the Carolina net.

After killing a penalty and failing to convert on a power play of its own, Washington tied the game late in the second period. Todd Warriner was the scorer from Artem Chubarov and Dan Boyle at 16:29. The Capitals outshot Carolina 11-6 in the second period.

Washington dominated the action in the final 20 minutes, but it was the Canes that got on the board first to re-take the lead. Parker got the goal with no assist at 13:19. Washington battled back to tie the game 4:10 later on Anson Carter's 21st of the season from Patrick Marleau and Warriner, and with just 56 seconds remaining, Marleau netted the game-winner from Mikael Renberg.

Manny Legace made 23 saves to earn the win and improve to 17-22-6. Jose Theodore stopped 34 shots in the loss.

The Capitals are back in action on Day 115 against Edmonton.
