Panthers Feast On Ducks
The Florida Panthers were in town riding and Stephen Weiss went duck hunting as the Panthers were hungry and feasted on the Duck Pond.
Stephen Weiss(pictured) scored 4 goals to lead the Florida Panthers to their 5th consecutive victory. It was also the first time the high octane offense of the Panthers had a player score more then 2 goals in a game.
Weiss started his scoring rampage at 7:06 of the first period while Florida was on the power play. He added his second :54 seconds later at the 8:00 minute mark to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. The Ducks cut the lead in half at 10:52 when Ben Guite scored his 15th of the year at 10:52. Weiss completed his hat trick :13 seconds later at 11:05 and the Panthers took his 3 goals and 3-1 lead into the dressing room after 20 minutes of play.
Although the Ducks were out shot 31-20 overall they matched the Panthers shot for shot in the second (8-8) and were still in the game after the second.
The Panthers started the scoring in the second and for the first time in the game it wasn't Weiss. Patrik Stephan got his 27th of the year and eventual game winner at 1:07 to make it a 4-1 contest. Arron Asham got the Ducks within 2 at the 2:18 mark and Jani Rita made it a one goal game at 8:30 to make it 4-3 and there seemed to be momentum on the side of the Ducks. Then the third period happened.
Florida came out blazing in the third and out shot the Ducks 11-5 in the period. Owen Nolan scored an insurance marker just :23 seconds in and that seemed to clip the Ducks wings. Then Stephen Weiss capped off his sensational night at 7:52 with his 4th of the night and 19th of the year cooking the Ducks chances of any comeback with the final score 6-3.
The Panthers now will head home to host the Montreal Canadians.
