Senators Look Forward to Offseason

With the Jr. Senators falling in the 6th game of their series, GM Schmucky has begun to look toward the offseason for both teams. For once, they are looking forward to the offseason and it could be an opportunity for the Sens to greatly improve their team.

With few changes possible in a league where GM's tend to be tough when it comes to trading, Schmucky looks at potential within the organization to solve at least some of their problems. For one, the protecting of Alexei Kovalev from FA is a must and a no-brainer. Kovalev joined the team and only played their 3 final games due to an injury that is expected to more of an ego crushing than a serious ailment. He landed 2 points in three games and a +2 plus/minus rating. Kovalev finished the year with good numbers: 76 GP 26G 48A 74PTS +9. These numbers will be extremely valuable this season for the Sens.

However, the added offence and leadership of Kovalev will not be enough. The Senators have been desperately trying to replace goaltender Roman Turek but have had little success. CLUTCH has a shortage of star goaltenders and their young goalies are weak and incapable of filling a #1 pro spot. Schmucky is not gambling on UFA's as the market is very slim when it comes to goalies being available so, Turek could be the #1 guy to start the year.

The Senators are also hoping to sign free agent forward Michal Grosek to a new deal before he hits the open market. Grosek landed 27 goals, more than newly acquired star Alexei Kovalev, and a total of 49 points. He had a very much improved year and could be a nice player on line 2 next season.

As for the Junior prospects of the Sens, it looks like young stars Kiel McLeod, Nick Tarnasky and Matt Hendricks are on their way out of Junior. Schmucky would love to keep them there one more year for development purposes, but as they have improved so much, it may be impossible to hold them back another year. Even youngsters Tomas Plihal and Alex Golovin could be on their way to pro as they are borderline as to where they will rate next season. This could lead to another Senators season full of developing youth and future stars. But Schmucky promises his fans more wins and as many changes as possible to get his team closer to the playoffs.
