Bruins call up Pierre-Luc Emond

The first of what will undoubtedly be several call-ups for the Boston Bruins was made today when the franchise and Pierre-Luc Emond came to terms on a two year deal, pursuant to league rules.

"PL, as we call him, put up forty points for the team last year in primarily a third line spot," GM Joshua Anderson said in the press conference. "But what we saw was him develop as a player, and we believe he has some potential to bloom even further. We want that to happen in a Bruins sweater."

The terms of the deal were unannounced, but inside sources report the twenty-four year old center is receiving $650,000 a year, complemented by a $650,000 signing bonus.

Emond is expected to contend for the fifth center spot, putting him number one on the farm roster. Anderson also hinted Emond may contend with Andy Hilbert for the fourth center spot.

"Obviously, we don't want to rule out anything. But we consider to be a better scorer and passer - two keys for a center - and holds a definitive edge in defense. However, these are almost negated by his lack of discipline and puck control skills. Basically, we'll throw them both in for some runs in the preseason and see what develops. I don't believe farm club time would be a bad thing for PL, but if he is ready, he is ready."

The Bruins had a second press conference scheduled for later in the morning, where it is expected another in a series of call-ups will occur.
