Rick Kozack packs for Boston
"We're sort of sorry to keep calling you in," Boston Bruins GM Joshua Anderson said as sportswriters filed in, "but we just want to announce everything while players are here and the ink is drying. That's why we are pleased to welcome the next right wing for the Boston Bruins, Rick Kozack."
As Kozack filed to the main stage and posed awkwardly for pictures with the GM, a review of his statistics in Providence showed why the team was happy to bring him up. Kozack was the third leading scorer on the team in goals and points, with twenty goals and twenty-five assists. He was one of the few Providence Bruins to be positive in the plus-minus, and amassed only eighteen penalty minutes in his seventy-two games.
Kozack also scored seven goals on the power play and one on penalty kill, potentially bringing a skill set the Bruins desparately need on the special teams.
"We expect Rick to continue his development with the Bruins "B" team here in Boston," Anderson said. "We were pleased with the output, but what we really saw was him develop as a player, and we believe he has some potential to bloom even further. We want that to happen in a Bruins sweater."
Terms of the deal were unannounced, but Kozack's representatives confirmed it was a two year deal worth $650,000 per year. An additional $800,000 signing bonus was tossed in to help Kozack with moving expenses and strippers.
Many reporters were staying close to the Fleet Center, both because of the free food, but because several other Bruins prospects were spotted on site. Among them were Jiri Jakes, Martin Samuelsson, and Darren McLachlan. Announcements are expected to be forthcoming announcing their signings.
