Sens Sign Key Defensemen
The Ottawa Senators dipped their hands into the Free Agent market this week. The Sens put in hefty offers on D-men Franisek Kaberle and Hal Gill. Both of these veteran pros should fit in nicely this season as the defensive core of the Senators appears to be it's weakest link.
Kaberle is a swift, skilled defenseman who will be extremely valuable on the Powerplay. The Senators feel that being paired on the first PP unit with Tarnstrom should prove to be a mighty improvement from last year.
Gill is a big, strong defenseman who should prove valuable on the PK and as a 2nd line D-man. He may be slow, but being paired with youngster Ryan Whitney or Filip Novak will create an excellent balance of finesse and toughness.
GM Schmucky stated today, "we plan on having a better season this year and this was a step we needed to take. They were costly in the cash department but since CLUTCH bucks are fake..who the hell cares? We had to deepen our defensive core to protect our new tender. He can't do everything, but now he has no excuses."
