Oilers sign Bates Battaglia
The Pittsburgh Penguins didn't want to pay Battaglia what he was worth so he ended up one of the most wanted players in the Unrestricted Free Agent market this off-season. Battaglia led the Penguins in scoring last year, Scoring 31 goals and adding 47 assists for 78 pts in 82 games played. Battaglia has a natural scoring touch and showed great leadership last year on the penguins. Battaglia will fit on the 2nd line well and help on the power play. The Oilers was one of 4 teams bidding for Battaglia and ended up offering the most money. When questioned about his new home Battaglia said "I'm happy to be going to such a talented team, I think I have a good chance of winning a cup on the Oilers they're team keeps getting better and better". GM Kyle Schmuck is known for spending every penny he makes towards making the team better and he wasn't counting his pennies this year when the 1st round of Free Agency started, He spend $10,000,000 in signing bonuses alone and has his roster skimming the cap as usual. Although the Oilers won't be the richest team in the bank account this year, they've traded it off to be one of the richest teams in Veterean talent with one goal in mind; A CLUTCH Cup. More on the Oilers other signings tomorrow....
