Eric Staal rewarded in more way than one.
Leaf Jr makes the move to the pro team and makes waves in the process.
Eric Stall was recently promoted from the Leafs Junior squad. He brings with him a JR Calder trophy award after being voted the winner by his peers. This just capped off a splendid season for the youngster, who was earlier rewarded with a generous rerate.

When asked if this rerate justified his talent level, Staal had this to say....
"Am I that good? Heck no, not yet, at least I dont think so.I have along way still to go before being compared to some of the top players, however, im flattered by this and hope to live up to the teams expecattions. My JR teammate Alex Ovechkin told me that this will impress the ladies though. There can never be too many ways to score in this league. Im guessing he will be in a similar sitation soon next season. We will have lots of chances to score together after he gets his big rerate. Watch out ladies!!"
I would gather from these types of comments, that the underlying message is the Leafs are still not going to be serious contenders for a while. Look for them to make a splash in the RFA market, with names like Cheechoo, Fluery, Tanabe out there, their GM will be busy. Rumors out of Leafland have starting goaltender Evgeni Nabokov unhappy with the teams direction and possibly wanting out. Could MAF be on the Leafs radar? or is this another sign of a contract sell off to rebuild.
