Raycroft moved on

Contradicting several recent moves which appeared to improve the team, the Bruins deal Andrew Raycroft in a late night deal to Philadelphia.

"We're sad to see Andrew go - there is no doubt about it - but the fact was it was a fine offer which we shouldn't have passed up," GM Joshua Anderson stated. "Will we have a bit of pain? Maybe. But I think having Scott Balan in front of the goalie, therefore moving lesser defenseman down the line-up, can only help us more than having Andrew in net instead of Antero. Frankly, the difference is so minimal that it had to be done."

Asked why the Flyers would make such a deal, Anderson shrugged. "If I were objective, I think Antero and the pick would have been fair - in a neutral environment. But I was not going to just give up on Andrew for nothing. I think there is something personal about Raycroft for Mr. Martell. I heard rumors of a love interest, but I'd rather not comment further on that since it is probably just lockerroom blather."

The trading of Raycroft does more than bring a promising defenseman to the Bruins squad. It also removes the taint of the Raycroft Collapse of this spring, when the Bruins went from leading the Adams to finishing out of the playoffs. With other upgrades which have been made, the team expects to move back into contention in the division.
