Senators Name C's and A's
Well the Ottawa Senators got their wish today as a rule change has been implemented allowing any player of the correct age to wear the C or A.
So, pending any other rule changes prior to Monday's captains and assistants deadline, this is what the C's and A's in Ottawa will look like:
Wearing the C this year will Alexei Kovalev. Fresh off of a big 4 year signing that could see him retire in Ottawa, Kovalev becomes the leader of his new squad. Coming off a near 80 pt season that saw him adjust to 3 different teams, Kovalev is expected to shine alongside Teemu Selanne and Brendan Morrisson. A leader by example, Alexei demonstrates great skill, maturity and poise and thus, should be a great Captain for the red, black and gold this year.
Michael Ryder will wear the first A this year for the Senators. Michael has consistently put up good numbers for Ottawa finishing in the top 5 in team scoring for the last three years. Ryder is young but has developed fine leadership skills up front for Ottawa and will definitely be a force this season on the 2nd line with Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Petr Nedved. This is Ryder's 2nd season as assistant captain with the Senators.
Finally, the only new addition to the Assistant Captains role on the Senators is veteran Defenseman Tom Poti. Poti is the #1 guy defensively for this squad now and has shown excellency on all levels after just one full season with the squad. Poti has been a great influence on young stay-at-home defenseman Ryan Whitney and has assisted with his extremely successful development.
