Flyers Winning Streak Ended

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Flyers winning streak was snapped at 2 games with the recent 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Hawks had something to prove and the streaky Philadelphia team could not hold them off in this one. Philly scored first on Mike Stuart’s first career goal, that lead was short lived as the Hawks scored 4 goals in a row including Nick Boynton’s first goal of the season and Antoine Vermette’s first goal. Kyle Wellwood made the game interesting with over 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd period as he cut the lead to 4-2, but the Hawks answered just minutes later to clinch the win on a powerplay goal on Eric Boguniecki’s second of the season.

After having several good games, Andrew Raycroft had his worst game of his season this far, allowing 5 goals on 19 shots. Flyers management is still unsure if they will continue to go with Raycroft or if they will go back to their youngster Martin Gerber for the next game.

The Philadelphia Flyers next game comes in two days time when they travel to Florida to take on the high scoring Florida Panthers. Florida is struggling so far this season; will the Flyers be able to take advantage of the poor start? The decision about the goaltending will be made soon, but the Flyers will be dressing tough guy Eric Cairns in place of Jim Vandermeer after his poor game tonight.
