Gone in 60 seconds....well, 41 to be exact
In the previous article, it was noted that the Leafs coach was going to keep their starting lines secret even to their own players in a show of defiance of sorts to the Commish's refusal to post the leagues opening night games. Even their starting goalie had to find his way onto the ice AFTER the puck was dropped and make it to the net before the Flames found their way.
41 seconds
1. FLAMES, WARRENER 1 (O'NEILL, NASLUND), 00:41
Obvious, the Leafs starting goalie didnt make it to the net in time. Evgeny Nabokov will now be undergoing endurance and strength training in order to get his time under the 30 second mark, just incase this situation happens again. Sufficed to say, the Leafs couldnt recover and lost the game 4-2.
There are other more pressing issues however. The commish seems to enjoy playing these mind games with his gms, and has a few more on the go such as....
---training camps. When will gms be able to send them in? And are the new rules on JR ov and camp eligibility going to be implemented now or next season
---Activity points. Limits per week? New cashing in system with new rewards?
---Rangers gm prescription being refilled? Is he a danger to other gms?
---Rumors of Tom being wooed back to take the vacant gm spot. Is he in danger from other gms?
---Rumbles about non-active gms being forced to join Bruce's baseball sim league and endure "Jays have Burnett, Zaun, Chachin available, listening to amazingly overpriced offers only!" messages for 1 full season
Its this secretive manner that troubles the Leafs GM and other GM's in the league, though most remain quiet since the commish's new "if you complain you can find a new league" mafioso motto that was installed at draft time.
For now, the Leafs will try to stay focused on their next game against Florida. One can only hope that some of these questions are answered before then, if not, their GM sure isnt going to risk complaining about it. Though at least it gives this reporter something to write about. For that...I thank you.
Signing off....
