CANES DROP SHUTOUT LOSS

Carolina

After an unimpressive shutout loss versus the evil empire of the New York Islanders, the Canes are looking to refocus and move on with their playoff push.

"We fired a pitiful 16 shots at Aebescher and we expected to win?" asked head coach Joel Quenneville. "A team that sends that little at another one is bound to end up a loser. We need to regroup and make a bit more noise and try and be productive. I do not really care if it is the Isles or not, these efforts need to be better, period."

After the game, newcomer Shawn Horcoff joined his new club. Horcoff is a more complete passer than the Canes are used to and the hope is he can somehow deliver feeds that the talented, non-producing wingers on the club can bury.

"No one on our wing is scoring at all," said Dany Heatley, the often criticized right wing on the Canes. "No matter what effort we put out there, it is like we are spinning our wheels and accomplishing nothing. We need a better effort and some of us need to step it up, me included. I have been terrible all season long, I know it."

With Mike Fisher added to the left wing side of Heatley, Shawn Horcoff apparently will make his debut between the talented duo in hopes to spark some sort of offensive start for the club.

The Canes have tonight off, but host the Detroit Red Wings in Martin Bordeur and Jay McKee's return to Raleigh. JS Giguere will get his first start in a Canes uniform since being acquired last weekend.
