Capitals Score Fluke Victory
Manny Legace made 30 saves to lead the Washington Capitals to a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Day 46. The result moved Washington to 9-13-3 for the season.
The Capitals only managed three shots on goal in the opening period, but Jonathan Cheechoo made one of them pay when he scored on the power play from Zigmund Palffy and Rob Blake at 8:44.
Calgary struck back to tie the game in a dominant second period. The Flames outshot Washington 14-6, and Brind'Amour netted from Pyatt and Hainsey at 5:12 to make it 1-1.
Washington turned up the offense in the final period and generated nine shots on goal. Todd Warriner notched the game-winner from Mark Eaton and Patrick Marleau at 8:24 to end the Caps' four-game losing skid.
Legace improved to 5-8-3 with the win. Mikka Kiprusoff stopped 16 shots in the loss.
The Capitals travel to Florida on Day 47.
