CANES PREPARE FOR GODZILLA

Carolina

After all the smoke cleared form the Brodeur deal, in
the distance one could see the rise of a possible
hero. They call him Godzilla and the hope is that he
will terrorize the league and carry this struggling
franchise to the promised land.

Sitting with a 2.57 goals against average, a save
percentile of .903 and a record of 12-7-2, JS Giguere
has positioned himself as one of the more productive
netminders in the CLUTCH this season. The Red Wings
were one of the op teams prior to the move and picking
up this talented goaltender will hopefully inspire the
rest of the club.

His debut may or may not begin in two days with a home
game matchup against the power house New York
Islanders. Giguere is coming off a stretch of several
games and might need the rest prior to his debut. If
Giguere cannot go, second year goalie Robert Gherson
will get the call. Gherson has had a very successful
season thus far, one of the few surprising stories out
of Carolina.

The schedule does not get any easier however as
Giggy's former squad, the Detroit Red Wings, and also
his other former squad, the San Jose Sharks, await the
Canes.

Overall, the Canes seem content with their new
acquisitions. The move eliminated two big
unrestricted free agent contracts that would occur
next off season, one in which young gun blueliner Dion
Phaneuf and captain Shane Doan both come up in.

Time will tell if adding a player of Godzilla's ilk
will pay off but right now, the two young blueliners
and the wealth of quality picks made the Canes feel
happy about their move of today's stars.
