Capitals Floored by Florida
David Vyborny assisted on two goals, but it wasn't enough for the Washington Capitals on Day 47. Florida skated to a 3-2 victory to drop Washington to 9-14-3.
The Panthers opened a 1-0 lead when Daze scored from Pandolfo and Stonkus 9:07 into the first period. Florida outshot the Caps 13-10 in the period.
Former Capital Langenbrunner gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead midway through the middle stanza. Nolan and Weiss setup the goal at 9:35.
Washington finally got on the board when Ivan Rachunek netted shorthanded from Andrew Ference and Vyborny at 6:46. Florida regained its two-goal edge on Nolan's 10th of the season from Weiss and Bondra at 17:23. Just 15 seconds later Todd Warriner scored for Washington to make it 3-2, but it wasn't enough for the Capitals. Vyborny and Cory Sarich assisted on the goal.
Manny Legace made 28 saves in the loss and fell to 5-9-3. Donald Choukalos stopped 29 shots in the win.
The Capitals are off on Day 48 before visiting Anaheim on Day 49.
