CANES FINALLY SHOW UP

Carolina

After being publically humiliated by head coach Joel Quenneville, and continuous jokes being made about the clubs star power and poor results, the Carolina Hurricanes finally made an impact in a game offensively and potted 8 goals.

Sure, it was against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, a team who at 5-16-2 is not one of the contenders for the championship this season, but it was an important victory nonetheless.

For newcomers such as Adrian Aucoin and Jarome Iginla, it was a big confidence type of game.

"Man, we needed to get something going and tonight we really pushed the level of play from everybody," said defenseman Jay McKee. "We switched up pretty much everything and said lets see where we can go. I think overall, the whole team really stepped it up and that is good because yesterday at this time, I think everyone was worried about being dealt."

Two big contributors are the new defensive pairing of Dion Phaneuf and Adrian Aucoin, who each had a goal and an assist. Dion also led the game with 6 hits. The duo gives the Canes two of the hardest shots in the league from the point and both are opposite hands. Look for the duo to continue their 5 on 5 pairing.

The checking line was also stellar. Kris Draper led the team with 3 points, while Mike Fisher had 2 goals and Matt Bradley had 2 assists. The defensive duo of Jay McKee and Ilya Nikulin anchored the line which finished the contest as a +3.

"We will not change anything for tonight," said head coach Joel Quenneville. "We have the Blackhawks on our sights and we really need another rmomentum game like this one to get us rolling. They played well but there is more to give. We just need to keep this going because right now, we are not very impressive."
