Capitals Fall to Rangers
The Washington Capitals lost the second game of a home-and-home series with the New York Rangers 3-2 on Day 52. The setback drops Washington to 10-16-3 and five points out of the playoffs.
Mark Eaton gave the Capitals a good start when he scored his fifth of the season from David Vyborny and Andrew Ference at 11:49. New York answered with a power play tally from Alfredsson at 13:44. Bertuzzi and Pilar created the goal while Ference was in the box for boarding.
The Rangers took control of the game with a pair of goals in the second period. Lindros struck first from Bertuzzi and Lukowich at 1:54, before Bertuzzi scored a goal of his own from Girard and Dunham at 7:03.
Greg Watson pulled the Caps within one late in the final period, but it wasn't enough. Frantisek Lukes and Severin Blindenbacher earned the assists at 18:11.
Manny Legace made 22 saves in the loss and fell to 6-10-3. Mike Dunham stopped 24 shots to earn the win.
The Capitals are off for two days before hosting Edmonton on Day 55.
