Huge Swap In New York
The New York Rangers made another major deal to try and reverse the fortunes of their team.
The struggling franchise shipped Mats Sundin and Pavel Bure to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Eric Lindros and Christian Berglund. Also going to Pittsburgh, and perhaps key to the deal, is blue chip prospect Carl Sodberg who's 74 sc at 19 years of age makes him very promising.
"We've continued to strugle over the last 10 games and have been unacceptably inconistent," said Rangers GM Burns. "Sundin has been a major disappointment. He's supposed to be our leader and he's not lead the way. Our defensive lapses have been an ongoing problem so we've looked to shore up in that area. Lindros is much better defensively than Sundin and Berglund is more well rounded than Bure, although not as adept at scoring. We're hoping this balances out our team and makes us tougher to score on without sacrificing offence."
The Rangers should have their new lineup in place for their third game in the last 10 against the Capitals. The game is a crucial one and could be an important two points when the final standings are tallied at the end of the year.
The Rangers hinted that Lindros and Berglund would line up with Bertuzzi to take advantage of the two behmoths power and the youngsters speed.
