Capitals Downed by Ducks

The Washington Capitals struggled to a 3-1 loss in Anaheim on Day 48. The setback moved Washington to 9-15-3 for the season.

Stumpel gave the Ducks a good start when he scored from Kvasha and Antipov against the run of play at 13:21. David Vyborny pulled Washington level with a shorthanded tally from Todd Warriner and Mark Eaton at 16:44. The Capitals outshot Anaheim 15-8 in the period.

The Ducks took the lead for good late in the middle stanza. Santala was the scorer from Bannister and Disalvatore at 18:00.

Anaheim put the game away when Martin netted from Stumpel and Varada at 1:23 of the final period.

Kevin Weekes made 25 saves in the loss and fell to 4-6. Pasi Nurminen stopped 31 shots to earn the win.

The Capitals return to home ice on Day 49 to face the New York Rangers.
