GLASS AND RICHARDS, WORKING ON SPEED
Carolina
The Junior Canes have openly stated they expect more speed from two of their more recognizable players. Goaltender Jeff Glass and Mike Richards have each been sent to Speed camp in hopes to help their current development in these areas.
Richards, who is off to an incredibly slow start offensively, has asked to go to each of the skating based camps and was granted his request. Glass, was unaware of this until the last day, but graciously accepted the assignment.
"Everyone at this level needs to work on something, it really does not matter who you are," said head coach Craig Hartsburg. "All names aside, these two are key prospects for this organization and anything to help their development is good for this team."
Richards, sitting at a pathetic 1 goal and 5 points this season, has been asked to step up his play offensively as of late. The young center has been mainly concentrating on the defensive side of things, however, the club has given him plenty of chances to prove his worth offensively and so far, he has not been able to produce results.
"We really wanted him to show us something but he really has struggled out of the gate. He has done what we asked of him defensively, but he is a two way guy and the organization expects him to be that player. He can easily slide into the shut down guy, but we want him to evolve as a complete player."
The junior Canes lost their last game, but the hope is to rebound. Jeff Glass, although playing equally as well as Jonathan Boutin, has only managed 1 win his several starts. The Canes simply need to give him more offense.
