HURRICANES READY FOR WAR WITH THE EVIL EMPIRE

Carolina

Currently riding a two game winning streak, the Carolina Hurricanes prepare for another epic battle with Corporate America’s favourite team, the Evil Empire themselves, the New York Islanders.

With back to back defeats of the Montreal Canadians and the Boston Bruins, the Canes are hopeful that their playoff hopes have no vanished. If the Canes can somehow continue their roll, the 7th and 8th spots could eventually be theirs. An 8th spot, in fact, would put the Canes in a first round matchup with tonight’s opponent, who the Canes defeated handily last time they met.

“We need a big game from Lalime tonight,” said head coach Joel Quenneville. “He will have to be on his game. A team can’t go to the Island and win unless they get outstanding goaltending. The Isles don’t lack fire power at all and if we intend to beat them, we need goaltending and we need a counter attack.”

Lalime helped the Canes defeat the Isles last time the two squads met. The key to the game, however, was a strong balanced attack and t Canes are hopeful that their newly formed lines continue their production.

“You don’t walk in and beat the Isles just by showing up,” said assistant captain Mike Fisher. “We need to play 60 minutes and we need to get on them early and stay on them. If you give their superstars time to dance around with the puck, you might as well go home. They have lost 6 games this year. That should tell you something about them.”
