Edmonton Sheds Salary, Releases Vetereans and Signs Jake Brenk to a 2 yr Deal
After acquring Kariya, Edmonton had to made some serious cut-backs in Payroll, The AfterMath resulting in the Oilers Releasing two Solid Verteran Centers, Doug Weight and Espen Knutsen's Salaries were too much for the Oilers payroll and unfortunately with no other choice, GM Schmuck released the two Centers. In another money saving attempt Simon Gagne was traded to the Sabres in turn for Alexander Frolov. Gagne went pointless in the 1st 5 pre-season games and the mix-up may be good for him joining the Sabres first line. On a brighter note, With the additional room at Center made with today's deals, Anaheim GM Signed Junior Center Jake Brenk to a 2 year deal. Brenk was expected to lead the Junior Oilers this year as their Captain, But it appears his JrOiler teammates will have to let him go to start off his Pro Career, Jake Brenk has performed exceptional in the Pre-Season scoring 5 goals and 1 assist in just 6 games, Last season with the Junior Oilers he scored 59 pts in 72 games.
