Bruins break into win column

They were the last team to win, but that didn't make the victory any less sweet.

A 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres set the Bruins record at 1-6 for the season. The team doubled up the Sabres despite finishing at negative two in the shot differential, a testament to the play of Andrew Raycroft.

The Bruins struck first when Bill Guerin scored at the four-and-a-half minute mark, his first goal of the year - indicative of the problems the team is having. Martin Havlat followed up nearly seven minutes later with a power play goal, the result of Mark Bell's elbowing misconduct penalty.

The sirens fell silent for almost twenty minutes before Josef Vasicek pulled the Sabres within one at 11:31 of the second period. The period was highlighted by a Bill Guerin-Barrett Jackman fight at the five minute mark that went to a draw.

Peter Sykora gave the Bruins a two goal cushion three minutes into the third, but the team ceded it back six minutes later when Josef Vasicek scored his second of the game. Sean Brown finally put himself in the goal column with the fourth and final goal of the game at 10:12 on a deke past Rick DiPietro.

When all was said and done, the Bruins celebrated in their locker room as the team had scored its first win in many months - and on road ice. "It's the beginning of a turnaround," Andrew Raycroft reportedly said, "as the ice is broken."

With the first win, three Bruins scored their first goals of the season and many had their first multiple-point nights. The team travels to Montreal for their upcoming game with the Habs next.
