Panthers Get Clobbered 7-3 By Kings
The Los Angeles Kings wanted to show Florida that they are not to be taking lightly and did just that with a 7-3 thrashing of the Panthers.
Although the Panthers outshot the Kings 28-25 it was Kings goalie Martin Biron that showed up to play stopping 25 of 28. Roberto Loungo had a night to forget and was chased out of the net at 10:29 of the second period but by that time the damage had already been done.
The Kings got first period goals from Vaclav Nedorost, who scored just :28 seconds into the game and added 2 more in the second for his first hat trick of the year, Mike Cammalleri scored his first of two on the night (he scored his second goal in the second period) and Jeff O'neil added a helper to give the Kings a 3-0 lead after 20 mintes.
The Panthers finally got on the board in the second when Eric Daze scored his fourth of the year and Owen Nolan scored his first of two on the night but by the end of the second the Kings had a commanding 6-2 lead.
The third period saw the Kings and Panthers both added a goal (Nolan for the Panthers and Mrazek (sh) for the Kings) to make the final score 7-3 Kings.
"I am taking full responsibility for this loss." GM Perrault said at the post game news conference. "Starting Loungo was a mistake. He has been playing well for us but was a little tired playing his 4th game in four nights. I should of went with my instincts and started back up Milan Hnilicka and didn't. I gave him (Loungo) the nod only because after tommorrow nights game we have another 4 or 5 day break and went with the hot goalie and we paid for that decision with an embarrasing loss to the Kings. Hnilicka will get the start tommorrow against the Capitals. From there we have a nice break to refresh our players and get back on track."
The Panthers have been road warriors to start this season playing (including tommorrow nights game against the Capitals) 7 of their first 10 games away from home and do not have a significant home stand until after they play another 8 of 13 (also including the Capitals game) on the road. They will then enjoy the comforts of home as they will play the next 10 of 12 at home.
"To be successfull in this league you have to win on the road and we havent been doing to bad in that department....well until tonight." Owen Nolan was quoted at the post game interview. "Tonight was on off night for us and we will bounce back. We have to give the Kings credit...they played a good game and Martin Biron was solid for them. Loungo is our man and can and does win games for us. We let him down tonight."
The Panther travell on to Washington to play the Capitals tommorrow night.
