CANES NEW WINGER JUST WHAT JUNIORS NEEDED
Carolina
The Hurricanes big Scott Niedermayer deal went down as a key deal for both teams involved, but the impact on the Carolina junior system has gone a bit unnoticed.
"I think a key part of this deal was acquiring a junior right winger who has the ability to bury the puck," said head coach of the junior squad Craig Hartsburg. "Our team has a lot of offensive power, but our blueline has really been carrying us and our right side is simply not putting the puck in the net. Junior comes with the reputation for scoring goals and at 6 foot 1, he brings a bit of size to the right side."
Lessard, 24, is a physical player with a big shot. With 12 points already this season, Lessard is now Canes leading scorer, ahead of Sergei Mozyakin, Lessard's likely new line mate.
"I think this will be a great chance for me," said Lessard. "This team is set to make a big run down here and as far as I can see, I will be a key piece of the puzzle. Carolina is one of those teams in the league that really works with its younger players. I just want the chance to prove what I can do."
Lessard will make his Carolina debut tonight on a line with the aforementioned Mozyakin and speedy center Brandon Reid.
