Sens Lose a Close One: Fata Suspended for 5 Games
The Ottawa Senators played a close one in Nashville last night, losing by a score of 4-3. This was a very even and exciting game as the shots were 28-27 as well.
The first period had no scoring but was completely dominated by the Senators who fired 13 shots on Vokoun but couldn't figure out a way to beat the stellar tender. Turek stopped all 5 shots he faced to keep the game scoreless.
The second period started off well for the Sens as a goal by Center Petr Nedved put them up 1-0 on a powerplay goal. This was Nedved's 5th goal in 3 games. However, the excitement was short-lived as Marco Sturm scored two goals in less than 3 minutes to give Nashville the lead.
Morrison would tie the game up only 1:21 into the third period on his 6th goal of the year on a beautiful pass from Ryder. Again though, it wouldn't last as Ottawa's defense could not find a way to stop Thornton and Hartnell in the third period as they scored to steal the lead again and after a goal by Brunette, the Preds wouldn't look back. A late goal by Philip Novak wasn't enough as the Sens lose 4-3.
But the story of the night was Rico Fata's vicious high stick in the first period on Nashvilles Daymond Langkow. Apparently Langkow was insulting Fata's mother by calling her names like "Slut" and "Whore" which ignited a fire in young Fata who retaliated with a violent high stick that will leave Langkow out for at least a week. Fata wouldn't comment on the incident after the game but did receive a 5 game suspension for his actions. The league is yet to comment on the disgusting comments made by Langkow to provoke the incident.
