Leafs wake up after bad loss to take back to back games

Sometimes the best medicine is the one that tastes awful.

That easily could be said, as the Leafs seemed to wake up after that 8-4 loss, to win back-to-back games against the Bluejacks 3-2 and the Redwings 3-0.

Getting back to playing solid defence and having strong goaltending seemed to be the key. Its early in the season, so there obviously wasnt anything to worry about, but still, losing the way they did was a disturbing event that Leafs GM Vendetti wanted nipped in the bud before it actually turned into a trend.

"I wasn't hard on the guys, well , maybe a bit on our poor goalie Evgeny Nabokov, I took away his payperview tv privilages for a week. It seemed to work. I guess for him " Forest Hump and Shaving private Ryan" was worth fighting to see . Good thing they were playing all month.

Quality movies aside, another main point to the Leafs success has been their Powerplay and Penalty kill units. The Leafs were 3rd best in PP and a flawless 100% Penalty kill unit. That alone will give your team chances to win every night.

Another key was the play of Geoff Sanderson who woke up and scored a hat trick. He had been struggling along with his linemates.

After a night off, they play the Devils at home

A last piece of advice was given by the GM, trying to keep things in perspective.

"Its not how many games you win thats important, but how you are winning these games, that will dictate how successfull this team will be come Playoff time."

We reminded Mr Vendetti that one must make the playoffs first before you can start talking about being there. He then threatened to take away our PPV in our hotel rooms that he kindly paid for. So, with that in mind, we totally agree with what he says.....at least until " Harry's Peter and the Sorcerer's bone or Lord of the nipple rings" have finished playing.

Get back to us after that ok?
