Junior Capitals Fall to Junior Canucks
Thatcher Bell scored a pair of goals to lead the Vancouver Junior Canucks to a 4-2 win over the Washington Junior Capitals. The loss drops Washington to 1-5 for the season.
After the teams traded minor penalties early in the first period, Vancouver opened the scoring at 12:13 when Smith netted from Globke and Allen. Washington was fortunate to only trail 1-0 at the break, as the Canucks outshot the Capitals 11-5 over the 20 minutes.
The Canucks continued to control the action, and after a Jakub Cutta charging major at 2:40, Vancouver made it 2-0 on the power play. Bell was the scorer from Sarauer and Vydareny at 3:07. The Canucks extended the lead to 3-0 when Bell scored his second of the game and fifth of the season from Tukonen and Bagnall at 12:02.
Washington finally got on the board early in the third period. Jean-Claude Sawyer scored his first of the season from Patrick O'Sullivan and Gennady Stolyarov at 2:01. The Capitals then failed on a power play chance, and Vancouver put the game away at 10:25. Branham was the scorer for the Canucks from Olafson and Sainomaa. Washington added a goal through Lance Moynch from Mikhail Kuleshov and Greg Mauldin at 19:04, but it was too little too late.
Brad Topping had 33 saves in the loss. Brandon-Crawford West stopped 23 saves to earn his second win.
Washington is back in action on Day 11 in Florida.
