CANES SEND TWO TO CAMP

Carolina

The Hurricanes have looked to capitalize on their youngsters by sending two of its top prospects to a clinic designed to help build intensity and hitting technique. Anthony Stewart, the strong power forward, and Jordan Smith, Sault Ste. Marie native and Canes first round draft choice, will enter the camp in hopes of building their abilities.

"These two kids are future locks for the pro team," said Denny Lavesque, head trainer at the Raleigh Sports Clinic. "I think both have incredible potential and we will just have to give them the know how to make themselves become better players."

Smith, the right handed defenseman, has spent most of the season helping the junior junior Canes, but looks to step up after a bit of camp work.

"I think I have the determination to be a contributor this year," said Smith. "I think any opportunity to get better, I will take."

Stewart, who has been in the coach’s dog house for much of the season, has been looking forward to prove himself.

"I just want to play," said Stewart, "and that is something that is not happening right now. I am better than sitting on the bench. I need minutes and I will prove I belong."

The camp results will likely be posted next week after an intensive trial.
